“Respect”
I saw a pre-game
commercial on TV before the game last night. Damian Lillard of the
Portland Trailblazers was seated next to a young girl as he spoke to the
camera and saying, “Respect Pass It On.” http://www.nba.com/blazers/respect
This commercial struck me
right in my heart I found it this was refreshing and positive. I rarely watch television and most times that I have I find it to be less than entertaining somewhat discouraging by all the negative coverage but tonight was a pleasant
change.
The Trailblazers say to the public through the social media of television and challenge their fans, the challenge is to put RESPECT into action and pass it on!

"Stereotype"
Have
you ever judged a book by its cover?
I
will take the liberty to guess that most of us have at one time or
another. It is quite probable and
possible since we are all human. On occasion we fall prey to being foolish and not thinking before we speak or act. Stereotype is a thought that can be
adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. So what does thought mean? “Thought” An idea or opinion. Making it within ones ability to choose. Let’s choose
wisely!
“Opinion”
A view or judgment formed about something, not
necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
We are all entitled to form an opinion. May we do so by respecting
others who are different.
“Prejudice”
Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience
Learn about people from different
cultures and allow yourself to become informed. One way is to ask questions.
A friend I met this year
told me that if I am curious about her or her culture that I should just ask. She said she is happy to answer and explain what I wish
to know.

Your greatness is measured by your kindness; your education
and intellect by your modesty; your ignorance is betrayed by your suspicions
and prejudices; and your real caliber is measured by the consideration and
toleration you have for others.
